New Job

 I've started a new job this week. I was off for 2 months after the last job ended my contract. This job is working in the office for a pet supply distribution warehouse as a customer service rep. It's actually a lot of fun. The admin side is nothing new, that's my career, but the people...Just after one week I think this is the first job I actually feel like myself at.

Funny story, I was offered two jobs in one day. The first was one that seemed to offer more opportunity, more growth, but when they told me the pay, I was shocked! I've never been paid that little for the amount of work that would be required. The second job was offered about 10 minutes afterwards and it seemed, simpler, but the pay was better. So I accepted. Turns out, it is a much better fit. I can tell that this will be a long term position. I'm so excited. It's weird how I thought that the first was the better job. I guess God had different plans, which is typical ;-) I'm trusting that. 

Friends Make Life Better

 I got to hang out with a couple gals today whom have recently come into my life and become good friends. I have always struggled with being close with women as it relates back to my childhood and how badly I was beat up and bullied most of my elementary school years. 

You know how the story goes, a girl whom you think is your best friend ends up betraying you to be friends with someone else. Only later that friendship doesn't work out so they come crawling back to you and the cycle goes around again. That was my childhood. Only later did I run into said girl in the mall one day who told me that she was simply jealous of me. No idea why, I was nice to everyone, but still. Isn't that just the human thing to do? Anyways, we aren't friends but acquaintances now, and that's fine for me. 

So, back to present day. I have opened myself up to finding women who don't just sit there and complain about their husbands or kids, don't complain that they're tired and they do all the housework, but build each other up and learn from one another. *Insert army woman photo here*

All I gotta say is, it's about time to find some women who don't compete for your friendship, don't compete with each other on who has the best, or worst, life. I'm learning that in my 40's, life is now about putting into action all the lessons I've learned about friendship and be THAT woman.

El Salvador

 

I recently travelled to El Salvador with a team to build houses. the organization we were with is Shelter Helps. They specifically build homes in El Salvador. The country is beautiful and was built on a volcano. The people have recently gone through quite an overhaul of removing the gangs that were taking over the streets. If you have watched the news at all or seen a documentary on a gang called MS-13, you might know what I'm talking about. The current President needed to take a drastic step in removing the gangs from the streets as they were some of the most violent people on the earth. So, he arrested them all and built a prison big enough to house them. No trials, no sentencing, no parole, they are there for life. It sounds very harsh, and it is, but the people of El Salvador were not safe and were not able to venture out on their own.

Being in that country, I didn't see despair and pain. I saw hope and gratefulness. The people love others coming into their country to help. They may not speak about their country proudly, but they do appreciate what they have. I think when you go from one extreme to another in a short time period, you don't know what to think or how to act. So, they rebuild and find hope. It was not only life changing for them, but for myself as well. I'd go back again for sure.

The Beginning

I've always wanted to start a blog. Somewhere I can put my thoughts down rather than spout off from the mouth. Somehow, this is less invasive, won't get me into trouble as much, somehow.  

I want this to be a space where people go "This is safe, and kinda cool. Also, totally what I was thinking."
